Create a Google Merchant Center Promotions Feed
In order to generate and upload a Google Merchant Center Promotions Feed you will need:
- An inventory with at least one promotion. You can confirm if your inventory has promotions in it by viewing your inventory card on the website overview screen.
- A Google Merchant Center Feed generated by Ad Builder uploaded to your Merchant Center account as the primary feed. If you have not yet created a Merchant Center Product feed, see our Creating a Google Merchant Center Product Feed guide.
- Opt in to Google's Merchant Promotions program. To do this you will need to submit this form to Google and await their approval.
Why use a Merchant Center Promotions Feed?
A Google Merchant Center Promotion Feed can be used to supplement your Google Merchant Center Product Feed to allow you to leverage Google's free Merchant Promotions feature. Merchant Promotions extend your Google Shopping Ads to include promotions which are active on particular products or all products. For more information on Google Merchant Promotions and its benefits see Google's article on Merchant Promotions.
Creating a Google Merchant Center Promotions Feed
Ad Builder can generate a Google Promotions Feed to supplement your Google Merchant Center Product Feed.
To create a Google Merchant Center Promotion Feed, navigate to your website overview page, select the blue + icon from the bottom right corner of the page and click Google Merchant Center Promotion Feed as shown in the image below.
Step 1. Inventory
Select the inventory you would like to use for your feed data and click Next.
Step 2. Promotions
Use the checkboxes to select the promotions which you wish to include in your Google Shopping Ads. Use the right arrow at the end of each row to view more detailed information about each promotion.
Step 3. Save
When you are finished selecting your promotions, click save. Your Merchant Center Promotions Feed will be queued for generation. A new Google Merchant Promotions Advertising feed card will now be visible on your website overview page.
Once your feed has generated, the advertising feed card will display the number of generated promotions, feed errors and a last generated time as shown in the screenshot below. From this card you can configure your feed to enable/disable promotions, re-generate it or access the feed URL using the icons at the bottom of the card.
Once your feed has finished generating you will need to upload it to the Merchant Center account linked to your Google Ads account. See our Uploading a Google Promotions Feed to Merchant Center guide for steps on how to do this.
In order to advertise your products in Google, you will also need to generate and publish a Google Shopping Campaign Ad Build. If you have not yet created a Google Shopping Campaign Ad Build see our Creating a Google Shopping Campaign guide.
